What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.

I wish I knew how to properly manage my time before I went to university. I chose york because it was closest to home and it’s program was one that I was most interested in from all the universities I applied to. Some disadvantages are the large classes giving very little possible interactions with the professor. I recommend attending frosh and also trying to meet professors to know their expectations so you can be very successful in your courses.

What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.

I wish I knew how much work it was going to be. I would try and correct the way I studied and managed my time for certain classes so that I would’ve done better than I did. An advantage is that the things learned in some courses can be applied to other courses and so understanding the concepts are easier. A disadvantage is that there are a lot of courses that you need to take in order to be in the program. For example , I don’t see the point of taking pkins as they are basically gym classes.

What was your favourite university experience?

meeting new people and the parties.

What was your least favourite university experience?

Exam season stress.

What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?

Hardest part is probably the academic and social life balance. I feel like as the years pass by, the workload gets harder and very hectic. The program was based on tests rather than essays and so it was necessary to constantly study in order to do well and sometimes you don’t do as well as you want. I learned that each professor is different and so you need to personally meet with them in order to succeed. Some helpful study habits is that I would always start studying at least a week or 10 days prior to a test so I’m not last minute cramming. It helps reduce the amount of stress I have to deal with. I also save the day before a test as a review day so I know that I’m fully prepared. For group projects, I make sure that everyone has a certain job so that everyone can be held accountable for their own work.

If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?

My favourite course was research methods in kinesiology because it was very interesting in a way that it was more based on teaching you to be street smart than book smart.
