Luxshetta (Year 2)

What did you wish you knew before going to your university? What made you choose this institution over all others? What are advantages and disadvantages of your institution or campus? List any advice for incoming first-year students about your university.

I wish I knew how time-consuming the commute to and from school would be. I also wish I knew how inclusive, exciting and lively Ryerson’s environment would be.

What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your program?  List any advice for incoming first-year students about your program of study.

I wish I had a better aspect of the potential career options available from completing my program.

What was your favourite university experience?

My best experience was having the ability and flexibility to enrol in courses that are not just related to my program but other programs as well. I was able to broaden my understanding of different programs and not feel tied down to my program. I felt it allowed me to explore my interests outside of my program.

What was your least favourite university experience?

Waking up about 3 hours before the time of my actual class was my worst university experience. Commuting was very time-consuming and tiring especially when I had classes that began at 8 or 9 AM. I had to ensure I had enough time to get ready in the morning to catch a one hour train, followed by taking the subway and making sure I would be in class on time. Commuting home after finishing my classes was also annoying as the train would be very busy and crowded, forcing me to try to get on the train as early as possible.

What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?

The hardest part about my program was balancing the workload from 5 courses. It was much more work compared to high school so I had to better use my time and plan ahead efficiently. I tried to use my spare time between classes to get work done so I wouldn’t be stressing about it closer to the due date. I also tried to minimize the time I spent on social media or my phone so I wasn’t distracted and could place my full attention on my work.

If you were able to take electives, what was your favourite elective? If you were not able to take electives, what was your favourite course and why?

My favourite course was PSY102 Introduction to Psychology with Stephen Want as he was a very kind and helpful professor. He made the content easy to understand by explaining it properly and expanding on it with examples. He was very lenient and his exams and assignments were very straight forward. He always tried to make the class enjoyable and interesting.
