What made you choose this institution over all others? Did the university exceed your expectations?
Prior to choosing McGill University, I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit and explore a few campuses across Ontario and Quebec. During these trips, I was keen on experiencing the culture and general "vibe" of each school — the intangible and completely personal feeling of comfortability and happiness. The McGill campus instantly made me feel at home, and I was additionally pleased with the academic opportunities at the school. I am fortunate to say that McGill has, in fact, exceeded my expectations, and I am ecstatic for the next few years. I am constantly inspired by the initiative of students through acts of advocacy and kindness, collectively fostering a positive and innovative environment.
Briefly describe the academic rigour of your program (in terms of competitiveness, courses, professors, etc.)
Thus far, it appears that academic success is obtainable through a considerable but appropriate amount of work. In case of particular struggle, you can always speak with professors privately during office hours. Your progress is in your hands, and success is most often directly reflective of individual and meaningful hard work.
Describe the social life at your campus based on your own experiences (making friends, clubs + extracurriculars, party culture etc.)
Regardless of your personal interests, any university space will have a social group for you; friends may await at club meetings, parties, or even your next class. One of the most crucial aspects, however, is taking the initiative to speak with your peers — with that courage in hand, unforgettable memories will surely await.
What are some of the best and worst parts of your university experience so far?
Oftentimes, I find myself plagued by waves of self-doubt, which amplify existing fears and worries. In the university space, you will meet amazing peers everyday, and thus may find yourself constantly making comparisons. However, these comparisons are often unfair, and always unhealthy. Every once in a while, remind yourself what makes you special and skilled, take a deep breath, and take on the next day with the best you got.
One of my best experiences thus far has been singing for an A Cappella group. Each week, I am able to escape to a soothing yet exciting musical space, teeming with talented and kind students from a variety of faculties and age groups. Though daunting at first, hindsight makes this experience a definite risk worth taking.

This is your time to show the world what you got. There is no longer an inevitable application in your way at the end of four years — your potential is now solely in your own hands. Embrace your own definition of success, make yourself proud, and never stop smiling.
