What made you choose this institution over all others? Did the university exceed your expectations?
I wanted to go into Vet school and Guelph was the only university that has a Vet school in Ontario. It really didn't exceed expectations, but it was also what you expected.
Do you have any lingering thoughts or regrets in your year as a whole (ex; application process, mistakes going into first year). If so, describe them.
I think I do regret going to this school because I really didn't have much community. However, because of the lack of choice that I have for my program and for my future career, this was my best choice.
Briefly describe the academic rigour of your program (in terms of competitiveness, courses, professors, etc.)
I think that marks are not too hard to get if you work for them. There isn't anything that is too out of the ordinary and the profs are pretty nice about it. However, I think my program is highly competitive. There are so many people who want to get into vet school and also a lot of people who don't make it, which makes the program super competitive.
Describe the social life at your campus based on your own experiences (making friends, clubs + extracurriculars, party culture etc.)
The people on campus were all super nice but they were not the friends I was looking for or vibe with which made my experience not as fun at Guelph that it could have been.
What are some of the best and worst parts of your university experience so far?
I think the best part about it was the freedom you have. The worst part about it is leaving your friends and the loneliness that comes with being by yourself.
List three effective study techniques and/or habits:
Exercise
Motivation
Hard Work
List three pieces of advice for first-year students:
Be yourself, if they don't like how you are then be friends with other people. Don't compare yourself with other people. It is super easy to compare but everyone is on a different journey so walk at your own pace. Have fun. I regret not having fun (not just partying) but meeting new people and enjoying it.
Additional comments:
There are a lot of girls at Guelph and not a lot of guys, which makes it hard to find male friends.
